Naturopathy is a respected area of medicine – but what exactly is it, and how can it help you to manage your health? We take a closer look with our resident naturopath Renee Grandi.
What is naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic system of healthcare, with a focus on natural medicine. Naturopaths treat the cause as well as the disease, taking into account your whole person – your diet, lifestyle, family history and living environment. The focus of naturopathy is on prevention, and is backed up with a combination of scientific evidence and traditional evidence, as documented in well over a century of practice. Naturopaths can be a valuable addition to your medical team, working closely alongside your GP or other health professionals to offer you well-rounded, holistic care.
What are the benefits of naturopathy?
Naturopathy may help with a range of common health conditions such as cardiovascular health, hormonal imbalance, fertility, digestion, immune system and gut health, stress, sleep, allergies and skin conditions, to name a few.
Naturopathy is non-invasive, using natural therapies to help the body self-heal. There is a strong focus on the person as a whole, with treatment designed to help strengthen you against common ailments, to provide your body with nourishment and to help you understand the role that your lifestyle or environment may play in your health.
Naturopaths can work in conjunction with western medicine, so there is no need to start again in your health journey. We work with your existing medical team to complement your treatment – combining various modalities and experience to ensure you have the best possible medical care.
How can naturopathy help?
Besides the benefits listed above, many patients find naturopathy empowering. Working with a naturopath may give patients a greater understanding of their body, their mind, and their environment, and how they all work together to create a picture of your health. By providing patients with detailed advice and clear strategies, patients feel confident to then take control of their health, preventing illness in the first place, and better managing any existing chronic conditions they may suffer from.
